Generators and bouncy castles (corrected version)
We should take steps to prevent individuals and organizations from setting up bouncy castles and their accompanying generators in Precita Park. As I write there are four generators running in the park, inflating four very large and hideous bouncy castles. Kids don’t need to burn gasoline to have fun running around on the grass, which is what kids should be doing in Precita Park.
I don’t think organizations should be allowed to take over Precita Park, drive trucks onto the lawn, unload equipment, build whatever temporary structures they want, run generators all day, play amplified music, and loudly and repeatedly blare, “Testing one two” on formerly peaceful weekend mornings. I don’t ever see that happening in Duboce Park. I gather that is because the neighbors of Duboce Park are better organized than we are, so don’t allow Duboce Park to be misused the way we allow Precita Park to be misused.
Of course we may want to allow films to be shown in the park, or allow the San Francisco Mime Troupe to perform in the park, etc. But Precita Park should not be up for grabs for any organization that wants to take the park over for their day or weekend event. The Precita Park community should establish which few events are welcome because they are beneficial to the community and to the park, and not allow events that degrade the park and our neighborhood’s quality of life.
